Slash Salutes Ozzy Osbourne With MTV Europe Music Awards Performance of ‘Crazy Train’

It was a big night for Ozzy Osbourne at the MTV Europe Music Awards over the weekend as the legendary rocker was saluted with the Global Icon honor. But the Osbourne love wasn’t just confined to dishing out a statue, as there was a musical tribute as well led by Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.
The veteran rockers ripped through Osbourne’s classic ‘Crazy Train’ with the assistance of Biffy Clyro‘s Simon Neil, who lent guitars and vocals to the performance as well. All the while Ozzy and his wife, Sharon, watched the fiery rendition from the front row.

It appeared as though Osbourne was visibly moved by the performance as he and wife Sharon gave it a standing ovation, with Osbourne raising his hands high to offer applause to the rockers.
The timing was perfect for Osbourne to receive the honor as he’s been promoting his ‘Memoirs of a Madman‘ solo compilation this fall. Osbourne has already stated that he intends to do another album and tour with Black Sabbath, but the career-spanning solo set is meant to keep fans in the mindset that his solo career is still ongoing. It was also recently revealed that a new season of ‘The Osbournes’ is currently in the making.
Meanwhile, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators have been showing their live chops on tour this summer and fall by promoting their new ‘World on Fire‘ album. Biffy Clyro are currently between albums, with ‘Opposites’ being released in 2013. Neil has stated that the band will likely start work on their next disc in 2015.

Remembering ‘Dimebag’ Darrell: Slash Praises Dime’s ‘Phenomenal’ Guitar Skills

Dec. 8, 2014 marks the 10th anniversary of Pantera / Damageplan guitarist ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott‘s tragic death. In remembrance of the guitar phenom, we’ve spoken to rock and metal’s greatest musicians to gather stories and testimonies of admiration towards the immortal shredder.
First off, we’ve got the one-and-only Slash. In this clip, the top-hatted guitarist talks chilling with Dime and other musicians at the opening of the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando, Fla. Slash also puts a huge emphasis on what “a phenomenal guitar player” the cowboy from hell truly was. “He had a great tone and a great original style and wrote very unique riffs … He was one of the best new guitar players that came out over a long period of time,” Slash declares.

Slash rock

SlashWith his signature top hat, shock of black curls, and formidable talents, Saul Hudson, better known by his stage name of Slash, is one of rock’s most respected and recognizable hard rock guitarists. Born in England, on July 23, 1965, and raised in Los Angeles, Slash rose to fame as a member of the notorious Guns n’ Roses, which catapulted to global fame on the strength of 1987’s seminal ‘Appetite for Destruction’ album — then stayed there thanks to subsequent smashes like ’88’s ‘GnR Lies’ EP and 1991’s’s twin ‘Use Your Illusion’ double LPs. Throughout these years, both Slash and his bandmates indulged in assorted illegal substances and decadent behavior, as the pressures of stardom and punishing tours took their toll, until the band collapsed into a lengthy hiatus out of which it would not emerge intact. But even before this troublesome turn of events, Slash had proven himself a musical workaholic and serial collaborator, contributing his guitar playing to artists as diverse as Michael Jackson and Lenny Kravitz, before launching his own solo band, Slash’s Snakepit, via 1995’s ‘It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere’ album. Slash would carry on splitting his time between the Snakepit, other musical projects, and his various chemical dependencies throughout the ‘90s and beyond, but he finally kicked his bad habits after a serious health scare in 2005. Around this time, Slash also joined his former Guns bandmates Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum in a supergroup with Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland, which they dubbed Velvet Revolver. The group was warmly embraced by hard rock fans and produced two hit al-bums in 2004’s chart-topping ‘Contraband’ and ’07’s top five ‘Libertad,’ but inevitably ground to a halt in ’08 due to bickering egos and Weiland’s ongoing struggles with substance abuse. Yet the indefatigable Slash simply got back to work and has carried on making new music, releasing new albums, and touring largely under his own name.

SLASH

Slash (who was born Saul Hudson) made his name as the guitarist in Guns N’ Roses, the band that saved rock ‘n’ roll in the late ’80s. The original group made only a handful of records together, and Slash, along with other members, left by the mid-’90s for a solo career. In 2004, along with ex-GNR bandmates Duff Mckagen and Matt Sorum and Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland, Slash formed Velvet Revolver, and immediately scored a No. 1 album with ‘Contraband.’ The band is now on hiatus, and Slash has filled his time by releasing a solo records and working with a new band called the Conspirators, fronted by singer Myles Kennedy.
